Former Vice-President Al Gore stated, Were borrowing money from China to buy oil from the Persian Gulf to burn it in ways that destroy the planet. Every bit of thats got to change. Someone at Honda must have been listening.
The all new 2011 Honda Insight was awarded the 2011 Cleanest Car at the Jaffas Green Car Awards 2011 in England. The award is based on a very unique set of criteria and research conducted by three independent institutions in the environmental field. Jaffa takes into account CO2 emissions into the environment, the emission levels of NOx, hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, PM10 particles, and even sound pollution.
The results of the research were staggering. The 2011 Honda Insight received a perfect 100% Green rating. The Insight consumes a mere 4.6 liters of petrol per 100 kilometers or roughly 62 miles. The CO2 emission levels were well below 100 milligrams per kilometer; test showed the Insight released 60 milligrams per kilometers. The Honda Insight also meets the Euro 5 emissions standards recently placed in effect in Europe.
With the United States alone accounting for an estimated 21 million barrels of oil every day, roughly 40% of which is used in passenger cars, Honda is doing its part in providing consumers with a fuel efficient and environment friendly automobile. The entire idea behind the design of the Insight is to make hybrid technology accessible to a great number of people.
The Honda Insight has included a new technology called the Eco Assist. This feature is a real time feedback system that helps promote driver awareness of efficient driving habits on a daily and ongoing basis. The Eco Assist provides a green ECON button that when pressed, regulates certain vehicle functions to maximize fuel economy.
Another piece of environmental friendly technology that has been included is the IMA electric motor. This electric motor works in conjunction with the gasoline engine, and supplies additional power and torque in assist mode. The motor functions as the generator for the IMA system during deceleration, and as a starter to quickly bring the engine up to idle speed without an abundance of emissions.
This next generation hybrid system features a highly efficient, 1.3-liter, 8-valve i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine and a DC brushless electric motor that is equipped with a continuously variable transmission. Compared to the Civic Hybrid, this battery pack has made huge improvements that has resulted in cost savings and reduced weight.
Honda has decided to put back on the bell bottoms and promote flower power. With its 41 mpg combined fuel economy and Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emission Vehicle rating, the all new 2011 Insight has made it easy for everyone to see what stance Honda has taken on become more environmental friendly.
